What’s wrong with this picture? It is the end of February in Dallas, Texas, but it’s 32° outside, the streets are lined with snow and ice and the weatherman is predicting more snow.
Most northerners might ask, “What are we complaining about?” They don’t understand when you live in Texas, you expect it to be warm 90% of the year and the bad weather days should be just that, days.
Unfortunately, it looks like this bad weather will last through the end of the week. This means schools and roads will be closed, so now you and the kids will be confined indoors. Oh no, how can you still be productive?!
Try these five simple things:
- The first day, don’t fight your covers. I know, weird for a productivity advisor to say that, but it will help. Sometimes your body needs that extra rest. Once it is recharged, it will tell you to wake up. Think of it as a reward for all your hard work.
- Once you have had your rest and it’s time to begin your day, change out of your pajamas. This will change your frame of mind.
- Let the light shine. Open all the curtains, turn on the lights and make the room as bright as possible. This will help lift your spirits.
- Write a To-Do-List. Every day you should have goals for yourself.
- When writing that list, remember, this is not an ordinary day, so do something extraordinary! Spend the much needed time with your family, catch-up with an old friend or someone you have not spoken to in months. My brother and I used to have what we called our “Pinky and the Brain” moments; he was definitely Pinky lol. This was a time for us to bounce creative ideas off of each other; it was a blast.
Now that you have the tools to be more productive on bad weather days, try them and see what works. You have at least a week of more freezing rain : )
